Life marked by the drums

-As a musician of death band your life can probably to be very difficult, isn’t it? I don’t know how it looks by you, but some of people from this business stands sometimes before the difficult kinds of choices – family or band. How often occurs you to hear from your girlfriend or maybe even a wife, to leave finally this beggarly style of life and instead to rot somewhere in the rehearsal room or wander oneself throughout the world for a shitty money, you should to go with her to cinema, to look after the children or to do something other useful?
No way! I am very happy married since a few years, and my wife is the most tolerant woman on the world! We understands ourselves very great, although she is not a Dutchwoman. Anja comes from Senftenberg in the east part of Germany, but when she only came to Netherlands she assimilated herself momentally, through a few of months mastered her language and found even a job, that makes her a much of fun. When I am not on tour, of course we both are visiting the cinema, sometimes watching a lot of films at home, and our theme horizons are really very wide. We have any children yet, but as Anja’s sister has already, we are both a part of family as aunt and uncle (laugh). So, that’s absolutely not so bad in my case, I am really very happy, that my life spares me these kinds of dilemmas.

-How should I to understand your wide horizons in the question of films? Are you watching simply everything, what you are catching in your hands? Even the monstrosities about treats the lyrics in your own band?
Sure (laugh). Yeah, generally I like all kinds of good films, without a meaning or is it a comedy, horror gore or even World War II… In case of those last group of films I like especially the German films. Nobody knows a specific and realities of Nazi times better than this nation self, so every of films, treating about those realities in Nazi Germany can to be good only, when is produced by Germans. If you are interested of these themes, you should to watch necessary “Sophie Scholl”, that’s a really good work. And maybe have you watched this film already?

-I should to same myself, cause not yet unfortunately. A short return to the music questions. There’s very specific scene in your country. In general, you knows between yourself, a lot of bands has a line-up connections with the others. Are you maybe in private contacts with the musicians of another Dutch bands?
Yeah, of course! As you have perfectly noticed, these kinds of bands like SINISTER, THANATOS, INHUME or first of all ours, have kept always their relationships and not only on the stage. I was always on friendly terms with Aad, here you are, there’s even his number in my mobile phone. I have met myself a few time even with Ed of GOREFEST, but it was only occasionally and we aren’t rather like a friends. But if the time allows and when the opportunity occurs, we are meeting ourselves very well with the guys from LEGION OF THE DAMNED – especially with Maurice and Harold, who played long time ago in MANGLED, as you know...

-Sometimes occurs, that line-up connections in the Dutch bands have a ground in partnership too, cause the one of examples is mentioned before the moment Maurice, who yet in OCCULT times was in relationship with Rachel, who left then this band, moving herself into SINISTER, where at the same time she was married with Aad…
Yes, but this marriage has broken up itself too, cause Rachel and Aad have parted themselves a few years ago. But on the one of Party San editions, maybe two or three years ago, Rachel stayed with the original singer of SINISTER – Mike, and as I good know, probably now they are together, cause in her case a life partner must to be necessary a death metal musician, bestly from a favourite band (laugh).

-Well, every of us has something on the brain. Have you maybe wondered yourself, how long will be possible to survive you with the band? What will you do in the future? Everything finishes itself someday, so you should to know, that SEVERE TORTURE will finish itself one day too…
I don’t think about it so much. Maybe we will survive yet 15 years, maybe even 20, when the destiny will give us a chance. Look for a example on CANNIBAL CORPSE or MORBID ANGEL – so many years have passed and they are still alive, doing the same as we – playing the gigs, recording a new albums. Sometimes could to wonder oneself how long they will be able too to drown in this shit. But that’s a question, where is no univocally answer. Only time shall tell.
