MY DYING BRIDE

While he is growling the hearts are shaking, while he is singing, passion is blazing. The vocalist and the author of lyrics. The visioner who knows how to give shapes and colours to the dreams. Aaron Stainthorpe, the vocalist for doom metal band My Dying Bride. During a little chat we had with him recently, he spoke of the albums which inspired him in the past and this ones he listens to nowadays.

I. CANDLEMASS “Nightfall”
The great album, one of my favorite ever. Without this album, My Dying Bride wouldn’t be here today. The great collection of classic driving doom riffs and catchy chorus. That’s the one I listen to very often.

II. SWANS “White Light from the Mouth of Infinity”
That is one of my absolute number one. I was very inspired by the vocals of Mike Gira in the past. Not so dark as their previous works, but that it definitely something worth listening.

III.BATHORY “The Return”
I’ve chosen this one because it is classical; again very inspirational, dark and heavy. It reminds me about the time we started My Dying Bride.

IV. BATHORY “Under the Sign of the Black Mark”
Again classical, heavy and very dark stuff. I used to write to Quorthon and he was the one who inspired me to create My Dying Bride. Of course Bathory’s music is completely different from what we did then and what we do now, but the album made a great impression on us.

V. DEPECHE MODE “Violator”
I am a great fan of dark pop. Again I think this is the inspirational album for My Dying Bride music. I think that is the proof that good music never get old.

VI. NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS “Murder Ballads”
Very dark and very inspirational album. I guess everyone has listened to "Where the Wild Roses Grow"? Another classical stuff. I come back to it very often.

VII. HELLHAMMER "Apocaliptic Raids"
As I remember well, their third album is called “Triumph of Death”, and for our new album we did the song called “Death Triumphant”. It is a little like holding a hand up, saying Thanks for everything we got from them.

VIII. CELTIC FROST “Into The Pandemonium”
I have to say that together with Hellhammer it was the most important band for us, back in late eighties. Heavy and groovy parts mixed together with sad, romantic ones. So, now you know how My Dying Bride worked on the style, hehe.

IX. RAGE "Perfect Man"
It was one of the best power thrash albums to ever come out. It is for me very fresh and unique I would say. Everyone who likes more melodic and progressive approach should definitely check it out. For me its true masterpiece.

X. MUSE ”Showbiz”
It is their is the debut album. It is cool, album I like listening to from time to time. Emotions, sometimes anger and energy are amazing in their music, but we should not forget about the very dark moods which also can be found there.
