In the next episode of X Commandments I would like to present Peter Lyse Hansen to you. He is a killer guitar shredder from Danish death thrash metal atomic bomb bearing the name HATESPHERE. Still relatively young (born in 1979) and very open minded person so among his top ten favorite albums you can find some surprising, sometimes quite underrated but still amazing releases. Check'em out!
I.DEF LEPPARD „Hysteria”
Simply the best hard rock album ever. For me it has a special meaning, as this was the first encouter I had with hard rock music - actually it was the first cassette, I ever got - yes tape!!! Steve Clark inspired me to play guitar - but quite funny that listening to stuff like Def Leppard could make me wanna make music like HateSphere one day, haha. This album balances on the border between pop and heavy, I guess, and it does in such an amazing way, that it still stands as one of the best albums ever!! After that Def Leppard has surely had trouble living up to this one!!!
II. CRADLE OF FILTH „Dusk And Her Embrace”
For sure the best Cradle album of all. The sinister atmosphere and the sublime instrumental skills still amazes me. Again, this has a special meaning to me, as this really opened my eyes to more atmospherical music. They have been compared to Dimmu Borgir simply because of the use of
keyboards - but it really cant be more wrong than that. For me, COF has their own style - and I freaking love it!
III. MUSE „Black Holes And Revelations”
Do you know the feeling when you get amazed by some new music, a new band. For me last time I experienced that was ten years ago, when metal was still growing on me. But surely now I experienced it again - not metal, I know, but amazing music. Muse is a loud rock band - but they are more than that. They combine atmosphere, symphonical parts, almost metal (;-)) and pop - and they are not only extremely good musicians - they also deliever the goods, when they play live. Muse has been responsible for the best concert experience in my life - and I am sure they will do it again.
IV. TYPE O NEGATIVE „Bloody Kisses”
Damn, "Christian Woman" is the most evil and cool song ever!!! The best thing about TON is that they dont take themselves that serious... just my style!!!
V. MEGADETH „Countdown To Extinction”
Should I take "Rust In Peace" or should I take this album... a hard choice. This album just shows Mr. Mustaine as the riff master that he is! One of my first thrash experiences!!
VI. ULVER „Bergtatt”
As I like atmospherical stuff, this wasnt a hard choice. I like the mixture of acustical stuff and black metal - and I like everything from the cover artwork to the general atmosphere in the music. I actually really feel that I'm trapped in the woods, when I listen to this.
VII. MÖTLEY CRÜE „Dr. Feelgood”
I remember getting this on Christmas Eve on cassette - and I remember all the wild stories, I read in the magazines about this crazy band.... and I was both frightened and excited, hehe. Now, I was very young at that time, so I really couldnt believe that anyone could be like that - but now after having read "The Dirt", I am a wiser man ;-) Anyway, this album has got the most wicked songs and production ever. Listening to hard rock/glam there is alway a fine between great and pop shit - MC delievers the goods without being too girly etc...And, if I didnt play guitar, I would most definately be playing the drums after having heard Tommy Lee on this one...
VIII. ANATHEMA „Judgement”
Actually, I like everything Anathema has done - all the way from the early death doom to the recent progressive rock. I love the atmosphere and I love the voice... keep'em coming!!! Actually, we played with Anathema the first time we ever played abroad - a quite funny thing, as Mayhem also played at this show... Pigs blood mixed with hippie shirts...
IX. NEVERMORE „Dead Heart In A Dead World”
I guess, this must be the most underrated band in the world! And this album has got 11 classics on it!!! The first time I saw Nevermore live, I heard absolutely no mistakes - it sounded just like the album - and in this case it is not bad!!! "The Heart Collector" still stands out as one of my favourite drinking ballads...
X. PANTERA „Vulgar Display Of Power”
Need I say more???
