Hot night in Berlin

It was a very hot day, not only reasoned by a temperature, which came to Berlin with the beginning of the late spring, but by the true hell for which were responsible three North American acts of music butchery. The Canadians from CRYPTOPSY, freshly after releasing the new album “The Unspoken King” have begun exactly their European tour and supported by the American aliants from UNMERCIFUL and DECREPIT BIRTH have started with the massacring sound crusade, from which first of the stations was a capital of Germany.

When I came to the club was very early yet, so it’s nothing strange, that the main room of K 17 was fast complete empty and a few of people, drinking the beer or wandering in the second room of the place of crime, totally bored have awaited the show of the first evening’s stars. About a 8.00 PM on the stage has appeared as a first band the local support named GRIND INC. The brutal death metal, mixed with grind elements, performed by two singers and very strong influenced by DYING FETUS, what not only by the music, but by a logo have mirrored too, can to classify as a good, but as there are a lot of bands, playing in this style and putting into the music nothing special, the short opinion could to sound, that GRIND INC. was simply good, but no way excellent. Maybe I have heard so often these kinds of the extreme and being a little bit bored with them, wasn’t able to accept it in the performing of the Germans? Who knows, maybe… I haven’t noticed indeed a true rapture from the audience, although a more of people than earlier have watched the actions of musicians, so probably the proposition of them was for the Berliners indifferently too.

Like for me and the anothers gathered under the roof of the club as a more attractive has presented itself the second band – UNMERCIFUL. Specialized in the technical death/ grind a quintet from United States with a one fat, swarthy and probably having a Puerto Rican roots guitarist, although that to the first league has yet very far, has shown a very high quality of their music, cause the heavy blasts, fast tempos and the killingly sound of every the compositions, created a mixture, smashing and pounding into dust all and everybody around. Now I know, that to have any album of them in my collection is worse than a sin, so I would to wish myself to got their stuff so fast as possible…

Meanwhile, the third partaker of the death marathon overcame the stage and his name was DECREPIT BIRTH. To this day the name of this American monster was known to me only from the logo, which have graced the T-shirts of a many musicians from high-quality death metal hordes, although the colligations between the band’s members and the others of American death metal acts are naturally known by the all of declared maniacs of this art, similar besides like to me. This evening I had finally the occasion to feel the weight of the beast on my own body and I must to admit that after the encounter I was really satisfied, although the half of my bones was broken, my skull became smashed like a bottle thrown again the floor and my entrails… Everything was covered with blood and the chunks of mine, splattered everywhere after the show of DECREPIT BIRTH were the bestly witness of brutality and unmercifully soullessness, which was served by those five of oppressors. Of course, it’s hearable very clearly that the band derives the influences from a first league of the home representatives and based on the SUFFOCATION pictures the front covers of albums absolutely aren’t the sign of blind and stupid imitation, but only a mark of true respect. I wish to the charges of Unique Leader a much of success and hope, that earlier or later they will stand in a one rank with the others of extreme masters. Don’t forget about the support for them, cause without it there’s no way for the talented bands!

I was very curious the show of CRYPTOPSY from two reasons. Firstly, the strength emanating from the Quebec killers, which I had an occasion to experience on my own skin at Party San 2006 is a true example of death metal masterpiece with the sign of highest class, for the second – a new album, some untypical like for CRYPTOPSY, cause recorded with a… keyboard woman, is surely something new and curiously in the band’s discography. Soon has proved itself, that a trick with the keyboards, used on the album is only a studio-trick, cause on tour the Canadians performs their repertoire only in a traditional five persons line-up. Of course, absolutely I wasn’t afraid about the gig’s quality eventually performed even with the keyboards, but being accustomed to the pure carnage, so characteristic for this band, a lack of this instrument wasn’t so painful as can to suppose. Talking before the concert with Alex Auburn, whom I have asked about the idea of joining Maggie (a keyboard woman), by whom the adventure with death metal is the first in her life, at the same time being also guaranteed, that ,,we will never be like DREAM THEATER” and an experiment with the keyboard is only a studio solution and the brutality, which has even characterized the CRYPTOPSY concerts, absolutely lost anything from the intensity. About this, that his words weren’t only the empty clap-traps, has convinced me of course the self gig, which was as becomes a true extreme band: fast, hellish and full of merciless. It was first time of course, when I had an occasion to watch the band in action with a new singer. Probably a much of yours can to have a small complex of the previous axeman – nothing strange, cause for me Lord Worm was the best vocalist in the band’s history too. It seems to me that in point of fact, every cloud has its silver lining, because Matt Mc Gachy is not only young, long-haired, blonde and very attractive for the girls (he, he!), but first of all he owns a throat, the same good and maybe even better than by his predecessor. The rest of the band of course very efficient like always, although the most conspicuous stays of course the rhythm section. How could to be anyway another, if Flo Mournier is no doubt a one from the most talented drummers on the earth and Eric Langlois not only by his untypical and sometimes funny (only by the part of his hair!) headbanging, but by the pulsating and hard bass riffs, can to certificate their highest murderous skills?

Of course, keeping in mind the recent premiere of “The Unspoken King”, the Canadians concentrated themselves on this album, presenting a partially a few new songs, which at live version are the same dangerously, but how could to imagine the CRYPTOPSY show without the tracks from previous albums? No matter, or we have to do with “Blasphemy Made Flesh”, “None So Vile”, “Whisper Supremacy” (like always with a beautiful “Cold Hate, Warm Blood”!!!), “And Then You’ll Beg” or “Was Once Not” – everything, coming from mentioned above the works of total murder and filling a one hour of carnage act, done by the Canadians, had a strength breaking the bones like a matches, adding yet a very clear and selective stage sound can to truly admit, that the concert of this band was like always the masterfully art of demise, where any life or not a stone is left standing. Probably the same opinion can to be uttered by the every of circa 200 maniacs, who have visited this evening the inside of K 17, celebrating by this occasion the 9th year of the club’s existing, what was of course splendoured by the after-party. There was however like for me any of willingness to parting in those entertainment, cause being deathly and truly tired by performed with a help of blasts, and technical riffs the sound massacre, I have chosen the return to home. Walking down the streets to the underground station, I had yet in my ears not only the echoes of CRYPTOPSY show, but the assurance of Alex too: “We will never be like DREAM THEATER”. I believe, guys! Stick it!
