KRISIUN

A true face of brutality

2008-12-18 11:31, Nikolaus Kunz

If I would have to vote for the best death metal album Anno Satanas 2008, I would meet a some of dilemmas, but the latest work of Brazilians from KRISIUN surely find itself among of them. Why? The seventh record of three masters of sonic murder brings another piece of high-quality carnage, shredding the body into pieces, breaking the bones and leaving everywhere the ruins and smoking ashes. Nothing strange, that Moyses Kolesne, the guitar player of this death commando proudly recommends “Southern Storm” as the best album since the times of “Conquerors…”, telling me on the occasion of visit in Berlin not only about the new album, but about the other things too, like for example the essence of death metal purity, supporting the fans all over the world and even a few words about… the Brazilian TV-series.

-Do you agree with me that your latest album “The Southern Storm” is your best record since the releasing “Conquerors Of Armageddon”?
Some people have said it, we always tried to do our new work the best, you know, sometimes we want to change something, but just to don’t let to stagnate on our styles, so we are pretty happy of this album, it’s sounding really good… Yeah man, I think in the medias everybody sees that the best record and so on, so we are pretty happy of that.

-You have recorded again in Stage One Studio with Andy Classen as the producer. What decided about your choice? Were you so satisfied of the sound all of albums recorded with him?
Yeah, he recorded “Conquerors…”, “AssassiNation” and that were like our best productions in our opinion, so we every tried to work again with him, because he is a good producer, he is like us, he likes his music that’s really raw and brutal stuff and he is not a type of helpless man when we want to achieve what we get it might one we had. He is not like guys, that do a lot of computer stuff in the music and try to make everything really clean, so we can be over the work very proud of this stuff. He is a kind of guy that we likes his productions and it was really very good for us to get opportunity to come back to Germany and work again with Andy Classen.

-Death metal is today a very complicated conception. How understand you the essence of being true in playing this music?
Well, only true is if you got to play what you feel, you know, if you like playing a commercial music like melodic death metal, pagan death metal or whatever – there’s a many ways like every single part of men on this world, so everyone has the other taste of the music too, you know, everybody likes the different things – some guys really likes brutal and aggressive, so we are here to make this happen again, you know, and try to bring it to death metal to real death metal back and try to progress it and make it to refresh, but anyway we are still living by a real stricte forward death metal.

-Touring so often all around the world, you have noticed probably so many reactions of people. Could you compare all of those places to admit where liked you to play the most?
Yeah, it’s been equal like some tour more in US, some other more in Europe. Right now we are touring a lot in Europe, but next year we are gonna tour a lot in US and South America and try to make it to Asia or Australia too, so it’s like a booth market seems to be really similar in US and in Europe, but Europe is not so easy, there is a more I think pagan stuff happening here, in US is more inch of nu-metal stuff, you know, but in the end, everyone who likes metal, likes the metal where are you from, so for me both pleased very good, so…

-What do you think about of Brazilian scene and condition of death metal in your country? You had a few of good bands like REBAELLIUN or NEPHASTH, that died, leaving only the tears of sorrow by their fans…
REBAELLIUN and NEPHASTH joined forces together and they have a new band called THE ORDHER and they pretty much plays the same style they usual played, but something different there and I think that some band have split-up because their inner problem, that we have even never known, you know, there’s a lot of great band that always split-up, but… Yeah, I think that in Brazil there’s some a new bands like the coming over, maybe not so brutal as those bands, but they have something to give death metal to another people.

-Tell me something about the support of Brazilian fans…
The fans from Brazil are really good, there is a lot of people that follows us there, not only us, but all kinds of metal too and they are pretty much like in Europe man, and you know, there’s much different nowadays in a metal, the metal where you from, you know, and for me Brazilian metal fans are like in Europe or like in US or in Japan. You know, if they likes your band they are going to buy the merch, they buy CD’s, they attending for the shows, so I think it’s pretty much the same man, some people likes commercial stuff, some of the people brutal stuff or the really underground stuff, you know, there’s a lot happening there…

-The power of tradition and your familiarly stuff is very visible, cause you have put this time on your latest album the cover of your countrymen from SEPULTURA! Who had an idea to record this time “Refuse/ Resist” as a cover song?
When we went to make this record we don’t have a might that we were supposed to do SEPULTURA cover song, but when we were in studio Century Media Records asked to us to have a bonus track for the Japanese release and we got nothing prepared to do it, but that is the song that we used to play a lot back in time, so was a natural proud for us that we could play like some more complicated stuff from “Beneath The Remains” or something, but we were not prepared to do that, so we just took the cover like that we could record it now. That’s of course our familiarly music, then we have recorded it and sent to the label, they said that sounds really good and maybe to take another song as the bonus track and keep the SEPULTURA song there, cause the whole record is already fast and brutal and maybe to have a mid tempo song there could be interesting for some people, you know...

-Recording your albums since so many years for Century Media, you have probably no reasons to complain of the cooperation with them?
Yes, Century Media – we have a good relationship with them, you know, we don’t own them money, they have a good catalogue of bands, after while search to own the money for the label. We always tried to keep a balance between like the income got to be the same level as the outcome, so I think that they are a good label, they have a really big bands there much more than us to give us the chance and are happy with us. They always hadn’t pushing it making the plans for the future, so I have nothing against, they are really good.

-This question will be maybe a little bit stupid for you, but Brazil was always famous of the TV-series telling about the love stories, the problems of every day’s existence, etc. Do you remember maybe a few of them like for example “Isaura”?
Yeah, yeah, it’s so popular! You know, in Brazil they exported a lot of so popular shit, I think “Isaura”… I don’t remember or what was about the slave or something…? Colonization, a Portuguese colonization and Spanish whatever… Yeah, I remember a little bit man, but I have never watched this shit, because I think it’s stupid, you know…

-Are you proud of your Brazilian nationality?
Yes, I am.

-I won’t be probably so original, asking for the end about the plans for the closest future…
We are gonna finish this tour, then we are gonna back home, then maybe something in South America, then go to US on a tour for DESTRUCTION, might come back to Europe for some of summer festivals and later then we will go back again to US, so we will line-up another tour there. If it might come back here in Europe, you know, we work with Massive Music, we will gonna see when they will ready get the some of plans, but I got a way that should it confirm that we might be back to Europe for touring like in the late 2009 for shows.
