EXODUS

Fuck everybody if you don't wanna hear it

-Are there any plans to release the new album soon? You were supposed to release the part II soon after part I. Why didn't you do it during last year? Is it only because of "LTBB"?
We started touring and touring . We just didn’t have a time to sit and finish the recordings. With „Let There Be Blood” I did my vocals in New York, they’ve did the rest in California. We weren’t even together in that record. We just e-mailed our parts. When we’ll do new record I’ll fly there and we’ll work for few months. I’d say that new album will be released early next year. February. Maybe March. We don’t want to rush. We want get it right.

-Is it true that the title track from "TAE EA" was influenced by DEATH ANGEL's "Ultra Violence"? Both are title tracks and last 10:33? Why did you decide to play with those associations?
It’s total coincidence. I didn’t know about it. It just worked out that way.

-Do you have any relationships with Souza or any other ex-band’s members?
I’ve only met Steve twice. It was very short brief. I’m still in contact with Rick. I love him. He e-mails me periodically and we talk every couple of months. I live in NY they live in Bay Area so I don’t see everyone so often.

- Why Tom was replaced by Nick Barker on you current tour? Some fans may feel a little anxious. We all know that his previous departure was caused by some serious personal problems. A trip to Mexico may sound not too trustworthy for some of your fans.
We’re not liars. We don’t say: let’s lie everybody. Tom had a vacation plan. We were supposed to tour. This thing came up in a last minute. So we asked Nick to fill in Tom. Tom e-mailed me yesterday. He wrote: Man I wished I was out there with you guys. Of course playin’ with Nick is a little different. Tom is a very unique in the way he plays, but Nick is awesome. Nick’s like my brother. It’s always fun to have him around during another tour.

-It’s no mystery that EXODUS members dealt with some drugs and alcohol. Did you ever had any problems with any of those things?
Yeah I did. But I’m clean since 16 years. I didn’t tuoch anything since then.

- Don’t you need any starters before going on stage? I mean some may say that beer would help to get relaxed...
I don’t drink beer. I don’t drink alcohol. I don’t do drugs. I don’t do any of that stuff. I just got a coffee before going on stage.

-I’ve asked you about it ‘cause last year I’ve seen you vomiting on stage during BRUTAL ASSAULT festival. Frankly speaking I thought that you’ve had too much beer before…
Sometimes I scream at the top of my lungs for an hour. And usually I drink a lot of water and usually I throw up only water. It’s just from the exertion ‘cause I scream so hard.

- You're tattooed guy. Do tattoos play important role in your life - for example do you treat them as a kind of statement or is it only a part of rock'n'roll style of life?
I was tattooed before I was rock’n’roll guy. Tattoos are completely separate. Tattooing is a personal deal. That’s how it goes.

-I've heard that you're a huge fan of stand up comedians. Do you see any similarities between the things that you do on stage and their work?
Sometimes funny shit happens. Stand-up comedy is the place where you must be completely honest. There’s no other band members. No label. There’s no leasing anybody. And no one looking over your shoulders saying do this and don’t do that. You’re completely on your own. And that’s what I like most.

-In one of the interviews I've read that you're sports fan too. What kind of sports do you practice while you're on tour?
I study kung-fu. But I don’t see it only as a sport. I race sport bikes and I snowboard. These are the things that I do on a regular basis. Snowboarding of course in Winter time, but motorcycles most of the year around.

-Seems like thrash metal is once again one of the most powerful metal genres. Not only thanks to great albums of legendary acts like TESTAMENT, EXODUS and OVER KILL, but also due to strong impact of new, young bands like GAMA BOMB or MUNICIPAL WASTE. Do you have any favorites among NWOTM bands?
It’s cool. I’m on bard. You know what I mean? I’m cool. I like the band’s I’m glad that they’re stickin’ with philosophy. I don’t really like the humorous side of it. But everybody has their thing. I only hope that it won’t become waterdrowned rehash stuff from the past. I’m with the new. All those terms like nu metal. Even if there is a bunch of bands I don’t like and I’d never listen to. And they sell a lot of records. But if you want to create music you have to be honest about it. And that’s enough. As long as you’re honest that’s enough and I’m on board.
