MALEFICE

We write whatever we want

-Would you mind telling more about the general lyrical concept of your new effort? I haven't had an opportunity to read the lyrics but following some titles I get the impression that some sort of apocalyptic visions dominates on "Dawn Of Reprisal". Am I right? Is there a red line, a general concept running through the songs featured on this CD?
There’s a strong sense of the end of the world in this album, but it’s rage fueled as the reasons behind our world slowly ending, is purely due to the fact we’re destroying it! But it isn’t all about the end of the world, there are songs written lyrically that are talking about specific events that have happened in the last few years, such as 7/7 in the UK or 9/11 in the US, it’s all the things that affect us personally and our views on how we see our world today, and the people that run it, or not, as the case may be!

-Some people say singing about the end of the world, the upcoming apocalypse, stuff like that has become a childish trend these days. What are your reflections on that?
I think it depends on the way in which you’re referring to it.. for us were not strictly taking about the world ending.. were talking about how fucked up our world is, what with the war in Iraq/Afghanistan, Suicide bombings things like that, and how it affects us as individuals being at home, listening to the news and seeing the people that run our countries fuck it all up.. and that’s not to say we’re even a political band, we just talk about what pisses us off and it happens to be that!

-Are you really interested in politics? I mean, can the politics, worldwide financial crisis, war against terrorism, social problems, such things stimulate you in writings?
It does stimulate us to an extent, yes.. I mean as I’ve said, we write about things that affect us, and we write about how we see things through our eyes! I’m not interested in politics personally, but when you see a report about some guy who’s got on a bus and blown up and killed 20 people, it’s hard not to wanna vent your anger about it, and the best way for us as a band to do that is through our music and our lyrics.

-Is there any particular message, anything that MALEFICE stands for? What does the band want to tell the world through your music?
The actual meaning of the word is 'An evil deed'..but I don’t think were trying to tell the world something as such.. we’re just passionate about what we do and we wanna go out there and show em how we feel about shit... by getting up on stage every night and tearing shit up as hard as we can!

-The album has a fantastic artwork that works very well with the album title. Every time when I look on this picture it sends shivers down my back and takes my breath away. It's very realistic and terrifying at the same time. Could you tell me some more about the idea for this? What would you like to express with the artwork? Who's responsible for it?
We couldn’t be happier with the album art we have! It ties in perfectly with what the album is about, it’s about new beginnings, wiping the slate clean as they say.. hopefully giving our world a 2nd chance to do things properly, and not destroy our selves! It needed to be Epic, but dark and disturbing at the same time, and that’s what we got! The guy responsible for all the artwork on this album is Colin Marks from Rainsong Art, we will definitely be working with him again.

-To the best of my knowledge in March/ April you will appear on some shows in Europe. Could you give me more details?
You will see us from the 1st April on the Metal Blade Assault Tour with The Rotted and Anterior fucking shit up around the UK for 12 nights straight! Check the MySpace for dates and venues and shit and come on down bang your heads and drink beer with the best of British metal!

-How important do you consider live shows to be for the band? What people should expect from your live show?
Our live show is the most important thing for us! it’s where we get to show people what were really about as a band! As a guy or girl coming to see us for the 1st time expect it to be loud as shit.. and see 5 guys up on stage going for it 110% every night!

-Those are all the questions I have for you. Thank you very much for your time! Do you have any last words you'd like to give?
Cheers to everyone so far that’s pre-ordered the album or has since bought our album! We appreciate it and we hope to see all of you at a show soon for some crazy shit!
