HATE ETERNAL
Fury And Flames

- According to the old custom, recording of the new album was accompanied with lineup reshuffle. This time it was entire change of the staff as the only left person recording “I, monarch” is you. What is the reason for these changes in HATE ETERNAL as I’ve never heard any rumours about your tough character or something like that…
HATE ETERNAL and death metal is my life. I love what I do and I won’t let anyone fuck it up. If I work with someone I need to be sure that I can 100% rely on him. The same way it was with former band members. But when they changed their life priorities we had to get parted. Except for special situations like that of Jared who got in some shit, personal changes in HATE ETERNAL were usually caused by members ‘ attitude – they either didn’t want to tour or simply didn’t care of the band. Briefly speaking, they just didn’t want to be the part of the band. In such case there’s nothing to talk about as HAYE ETERNAL isn’t fucking Sunday school but death metal monster recording CDs and touring. The reason why I got parted with Derek Roddy was just because he didn’t want to or maybe wasn’t able to tour with the band. So it became obvious that I need a new drummer. I’m still in good relations with Randy Piro but he’s also chosen another track, he wanted to come back to his academy and continue interrupted education. So I needed to look out for somebody who’d fully engage in the process of new album’s creation. For me such things are obvious. I need in that band people who’ll work their guts out for the effect to be the best. And this is how it was with Alex, Jade and Shaune who did their absolutely best. I’ll tell you that thanks to their commitment the band was able to realize a few ideas which I couldn’t execute with the former lineups. Alex spent all his free time in the studio recording and improving his parts endlessly. Thanks to him we have fucking awesome bass on the “Fury & Flames”. Shaune – the second guitarist and my long-lasting friend also didn’t laze around. I’ve mentioned Jade’s work before as well. It’s the best answer for your question. Next HATE ETERNAL’s lineup reconstruction was justified because thanks to it I could work with such fucking good musicians as Alex, Jade and Shaune.
-You’ve mentioned Jared before whose tragic death in 2006 was a great shock for everyone. How will you remember this guy?
Jared... Jared was absolutely devoted friend. The man with whom I created this band for many years. Extremely gifted and passionate musician. He was very straightforward, I trusted him the most out of the all the former HATE ETERNAL members. Even when he already wasn’t in the band we kept in touch, I was trying to do my best in supporting him in the struggle with this shit (drugs - DK.). He was making plans about coming back to the band after he gets over that problem and recording many great albums yet. He was loyal to the very end. I’m totally sad that he’s not here anymore but I’ll always remember him. We spent many years together, I have lots of memories… Jared was somebody very special for me and that’s why I decided to dedicate the whole album in honour of him.
- You took the idea for the title “Fury & Flames” from his MySpace address www.myspace.com/furyandflames ...
Exactly. It was also his e-mail address. I wanted to commemorate my late friend. I also wrote especially for him next to last track „Tombeau (Le Tombeau De La Fureur Et Des Flammes)”. Generally, I wanted that album to remind me him as much as possible. The title perfectly expresses what I felt when I got to know about his death. Flames are a symbol for death for me. And Fury is for anger, rage, sorrow, helplessness and solitude. This title has much in common not only with Jared but also with his passing by.
- Let’s talk about different matters. Did you feel excited when you learnt about MORBID ANGEL looking for the guitarist?
Frankly speaking…no, rather not. I’m not interested. I would if I could clone myself. MORBID ANGEL is a genious cultic band and those years I spent with them were a great school for me. Nowadays, however, ATE ETERNAL is for me an absolute priority and nothing else matters. And surely not joining such intensively functioning band. This would mean the death of HATE ETERNAL and we don’t want it to happen, do we? (laugh) Besides, I have so tight schedule at least till the end of this year that I simply won’t be available. However, if I got to know that I have a sibling I’ll surely ecommend him this work.
- You know this band from inside, you know its code, personalities that create it. Why, do you think, David Vincent came back to the band?
To be sincere I don’t think David returned for money. He’s already well set up so I guess he doesn’t bother with raking in money with MORBID ANGEL. He came back cause he was asked to or he just wanted to. That’s my opinion.
- Many people, however, still don’t believe in the strength of this lineup. I mean in its ability to create something as great as „Covenant” or „Domination”...
We’ll see what they’ll show us. I know that they’re working hard on the newest album. Remember, it’s MORBID ANGEL, the band which members are guys such as Sandoval, Azagthoth or Vincent. If you know how good they are and still doubts if they’re ready to record a good album then…we’ve nothing to talk about (laugh).
