NAPALM DEATH

Natural beauty of the world

2009-01-20 09:30, Darek Kempny

-As NAPALM DEATH's main lyricist Barney has always been extreme in his critics of George W. Bush. Do you believe that Obama's government will change the world for a better place to live?
I can only answer for myself in that. We can only hope that Obama can move forwards in a more peaceful direction.

-You've always expressed your ideas and ideals with great courage in my opinion. Have you ever experienced any negative side effects of your writing?
There have been problems in the past to some degree but that inevitable when you write lyrics that challenge the so called norma of human behaviour.

-With the release of „Time Waits For No Slave” you are probably gearing up to make some noise out on the road. How's everything looking at this point?
So far its looking to be a busy year. We head out to Turkey in a couple of weeks then some more Eastern European shows before heading to Scandinavia in February and then to the United States in April, before the festivals over the summer.

-By the way, you are planning to play a one-off show in Birmingham on January 31, 2009. It's going to be a special one since the tracklist for this show will feature only songs from "Time Waits For No Slave". How did you come up with that idea?
We did it once before in Germany for „The Code...” album and it worked really well. We will play some old classics as well and mix some new stuff in with the record as well.

-Being a travelling musician is definitely an amazing job to have, but it isn't the easiest thing to do, for sure. How many times in recent years have you wanted to get a normal job?
For me never. I love what I do and I hope to continue for as long as I am able to.

-I guess playing with NAPALM DEATH means making many sacrifices in a private life so what is the main reason you guys still want to play? You have never had an ambition to be the biggest band on this planet selling fifteen million records every fucking year. So what mainly force you to be a part of the music scene when the real commercial success has never been the main goal for you guys?
I have always wanted to do this, we make enough to get by and I count myself lucky in that. The reward comes from other things like the ability to travel to places I would never have normally been able to see and meeting and making great friends around the world.

-Ok, thank you very much for taking some time to answer to my question. And of course, thank you very much for another great slab of noise from mighty NAPALM DEATH. Keep on going!
Cheers!
