DARKANE
Daemon in heaven

-My next question concerns your new album artwork. Well... what the fuck is that?! Actually, this is another weird front cover in your career that should be precisely discussed, so could you tell me something about the idea?
It was created by artist Fredrik Ödman. He came up with a rough draft at first, and then we told him what we like and what we would like to be changed. He listened to our ideas and knew what we meant, but of course all the cred goes to Fredrik. He did an amazing job. It’s like a biblical landscape with a very dramatic weather, and something went very wrong. Like if a deamon went berzerk in heaven and pulled the angels wings out and hanged them upside down in ropes. I like it alot.
-All the artworks and booklets for your albums are quite weird and surrealistic. What does it come from?
I guess it comes from the fact that DARKANE doesn’t wanna do anything that has been done before. We dont’ wanna give the listener/viewer something easy. They have to use their own minds too.
-How about the album title? What does „demonic art” term mean? Is there any special meaning behind or it's just a good- sounding title for a metal album and... nothing more?
It could have different meanings. It’s both connected to the cover where a deamon has created his art in heaven. Also, Demonic Art, the title song of the album is a continuation on a song we had on our previous album Layers of Lies called Organic Canvas. That song was about an “artist“ whos work was made of human flesh. This time he is imprisoned and the song is about the thoughts he has while waiting to get out and continue his demonic art.
-Apart from DARKANE you have been involved in many other bands and side- projects. What are the latest news from NON HUMAN LEVEL, TERROR 2000, CONSTRUCTDEAD and THE DEFACED?
I can be honest and say that there are no news regarding those mentioned bands. My solo album Non-Human Level sold about 5000 copies around the world, and I’m very satisfied with that. I might start to work on a second album one day, but right now DARKANE is my main priority.
-Your drummer Peter Wildoer is a true record- holder. He has been involved in at least 12 various bands. Recently he was asked to join reformed PESTILENCE- Dutch death metal legend. How does his other activities affect DARKANE?
No at all. DARKANE is also his main priority. He also recorded the drums for the new OLD MANS CHILD a few months ago and that was right before Demonic Art was released so he didn’t really have any duties with DARKANE at that moment. Our side projects has actually never interfered with DARKANE since this band always comes first for all of us.
-A limited edition of your new album features a bonus DVD disc. On the disc can be found a trailer of your upcoming regular DVD release. Could you give me more details about that one?
Yes, the American release of Demonic Art features a bonus DVD with our studio diaies plus some extra stuff, like our trip to the Chicago Powerfest in May last year and so on. We are looking to release the real live DVD in May or so. It contains a show we filmed in our hometown Helsingborg in 2006, filmed by eight cameras and a professional sound recording. There will also be 12 bonus live songs from festivals and other shows. 45 minutes of footages from the studio recordings we had done on all four albums so far (not including Demonic Art), and 45 minutes of footages from our own video camera while being on tour. It will also include our three official videos. In other words, it will be the perfect DARKANE bible every fans should own. =)
-OK, we're pretty close to finish this interview. What's next for DARKANE, what can we expect from you in 2009?
We have the US tour coming up in february and march. After that we are hoping to play some european festivals and maybe tour Europe in the fall. Nothing is decided yet. We are also eager to write the new album as fast as possible so that you shouldn’t have to wait for another three years for the next one.
-Yeah, at the end of January you kick off a two months long North American tour alongside SOILWORK, WARBRINGER and SWALLOW THE SUN. It's gonna be a murderous trip. Are you ready for it?
Yes, pretty much. We’re playing 50 cities in 52 days. It will be interesting to see what it will be like to play like 35 shows in a row with no day off at all.
-OK, that's all. Thank you very much for the interview and wish you all the best for 2009! Take care!
Thank you! Take care and stay metal!
