Still I find inside, dating back to 1992, the petrosomatoglyphs of first impressions, when I was fell with a single blow by the first memento, under the name – "As the Flower Withers". That simple melody couldn't be ignored. There was to much passion. It sent a shiver down my spine. The new. mysterious value was discovered, like it was dug up at Whitby's monastery. Then came 1993 and the new masterpiece was created- "Turn Loose The Swans". We got the chance to see the light and feel the warm desire, and times went on. Lets mention only those two ones to stress the new ways in metal, which were represented by that legendary albums. It doesn't matter which from the previous albums I think about. If I had to illustrate the music, all of them bring to my mind the scenes from William Blake's paintings.

Getting closer to nowadays let me also mention "Songs of Darkness, Words of Light" together with "The Light at the End of the World" and The "Dreadful Hours". Definitely outstanding masterpieces, on which the new guidelines of the doom style were included.

Anno miserabilis 2009. My Dying Bride is back in the well-known shape of gloomy sounds of despair. A dark, snowy winter night, (as it is now, when I write this words) creates the perfect aura to get to the new opus. From the very first sound it sounds amazing, with the crystal guitar passages which run over me, disappearing, for a while, somewhere in the air, to make more space for the a sighs of regret wandering among the single nostalgic tones. Then sudden and dull, muffled noises in the background. Keyboards moans. I figured it out long time ago. Now I am certain. My Dying Bride is should be felt, far more that listened to. With eyes closed, drifting where waves of violin goes. Be quiet! Look back. Got that feeling someone is around? They used violin before; My Dying Bride were probably the first band to use the instrument in metal music. On "For Lies I Sire" Katie anxious, trembling violin parts seem to be the part of the lost soundtrack for Poe's horror stories. I suspect the raven hasn't appeared on the cover accidentally.

With this album, the band leaves the cerulean, dark grounds to step into more pale, wintry, evening-like realms. It seems to be lighter then others in the line of deathless kings. It doesn't mean of course, that they have changed stylistics. The characteristic melancholia still oozes, trickling into the heart, and the ghost of the bride constantly looms among naked trees, summon by clear voices of the poet in bitter pain. Aaron has filled this opus funerali with vulnerable, shady, haunted bemoans, sang with clear, rending voices echoing from where no pleased tranquility dwells. There are some parts, when the unbearable bereavement grows and finally bursts into tears. The monumental and blacken; tremendously roaring guitars. Flogging voices- dreadful kerfuffle among the gathered winds. Still violin resound in the distant, fading away. Guitars last passages underline the end of the album, bringing some energy into the dreamy mind…and winter night is rocking the dreamers in the arms.

After listening the previous album "A Line of Deathless Kings", I desperately missed such cold and austere stories. Finally I am moved by that latest sonic manuscript . I can assure you won't be able to get rid of the feeling, that you want to experience this album again and again. Personally, I don't need any other piece of music for the upcoming weeks. I bow before the band for such an adorable stuff.
