In the terror zone

Mille Petrozza is a born musician, what has the evidence in fact, that his work still makes his happy. Although his 42 years, from which a half he spent in studios and on tours, the leader of KREATOR still has a much of energy, having also the brave plans for the future. Not so long ago he said, that together with his comrades wants to record the most brutal album in a history of his band (so, is it possible here to not like him?). I have talked with him this one not only about music, but about a politics too. A reason? Released recently a DVD material “At The Pulse Of Kapitulation”, including a splendid gig, recorded 1990 in capital of united again Germany. If not a fact, that a year before the Berliner Wall has fallen, KREATOR would to blow him in a space of few seconds…

-A material from memorable gig in Berlin 1990 previously was released in VHS version. Why have you decided to release it again, this time on DVD record?
It has begun itself by the call of somebody from Sanctuary Records with information, that we have again the rights to this material and if we want something to do with him, there’s no complication. We started to work with this, with improving of sound, montage, etc. Firstly, it was any plan to release it again, but with a time all of things were better and better, so finally we have thought, that if we are in able to guarantee to this material a better quality, closing it also to actual standards, so… why not? Finally, that’s a historical concert and much of people surely would to have it in better quality and in more modern form. We have added a some of other things too, so in the final effect, we mustn’t probably to shame ourselves. Of course, some of questions was impossible to realize, but we did so much as we can.

-Exactly, was so difficult to reshape those archives into another modern form?
With VHS it would be horrible difficult, but fortunately has kept a TV DAT tape itself. Although the edition and the completing those all together wasn’t so easy. Those were another times, another technology, so that’s why so many of realization errors, what we must to managed. You know, not everything is there, as should to be. Sometimes even Frank or Rob, standing on the wings of the stage are not good visible, but we haven’t had any of additional material to replace it. A people, who recorded those show had any of experience by the realizing a metal show, so that’s effect. Anyway, I think, that’s not so bad. Finally, that’s a gig from before 20 years.

-Which are your feelings, when you watch today this show?
A lot of laugh, nothing more (laugh). Sometimes I take my head in hands, but it was so long ago, that I can to forgive myself all of those mistakes. Generally, I am the person, who doesn’t look behind, I prefer to live by a life, which is before me. Although a Berliner gig is a very nice respect from the past. It was complete another band, another realities, our beginnings. I have really warm memories.

-A time since the forming of KREATOR to the fall of Berliner Wall was for you as a band very glorious. All of four albums recorded in those time have today a status of fundamental releases, that’s a determinant of your later albums. It’s very popular too a opinion, that KREATOR was never so good after “Extreme Aggression”…
You know, it’s a typical problem of each band, which has recorded more than one album. Always there are the questions, which of times of his activity was the best. In those kinds of situations the old releases have always a better support than these new. A time was able to verify them, we have a lot of sentiments, etc. Practically, I am not surprised, personally I can to listen anything, what METALLICA has recorded after “…And Justice For All” (laugh). It’s maybe not so good example, cause METALLICA still stays a mighty band, but it works more or less this way. Generally, the 80’s were a splendid times for a metal music, but many of bands like TESTAMENT or EXODUS have recorded their best albums more later. So, that can not to generalize. It’s all the question of a subjective opinions, so if somebody says, that the best albums were created in 80’s, I have no problem with this.

-Your calm in this question is probably reasoned by a sure, that you haven’t said yet a last word as a band?
Exactly. I know about it, I am very strong convicted, that a much of goodies yet before us. A current line-up of KREATOR is the most strong and the most stable, as this band has ever had and I experience myself with him something, what I have never experienced. The enthusiasm and power, a big hunger and energy. That’s a beautiful feeling and I know, that will bear interest with all of our next releases.

-On “At The Pulse Of Kapitulation” we have a some of bonuses and the biggest meaning has a new version of mini-horror “Hallucinative Coma” by Andreas Marschall. Tell you a few words about this idea?
It was in times “Coma Of Souls”. The lyrics for those album were very specific and perfect to visualize. A firm Modern Video had contacted oneself with us in those days, proposing to record a live video, but we were shortly after the work with a previous, so have decided, that’s no need to make another. But they wanted to do something. We decided in those situation, that if we will got a money, we make our own horror. A cash for realizing wasn’t so big, so we weren’t able to spread our wings and only thank of people taking a part in this project, the final effect is quite good. I am very satisfied from the result and a new, re-edited version “Hallucinative Coma” looks better than original.

-So, you have a lot of shit around of you, cause DVD is available in Germany only for adults…
(laugh) That’s true, but this is exactly a law here. I think, that’s a dismal sign of groundless censoring. But we can to do anything, cause a German law is very oversensitive for all questions of violence. But the devil of it is that’s any of violence there, only some special effects like in American films…
